Can we say that sci-fi is finally back in fashion? Did Blade Runner 2049 actually deliver better than its predecessor, thus reviving the whole genre? Indeed, none of the sci-fi flicks from the recent years have come off with such integrity, visual prowess, and, may we say, rational thought. All of this is achieved while looking stunning in the process. With the new wave of futuristic, gorgeous looking movies gracing our screens, we felt inspired enough to prepare a special set of sci-fi influenced wall art decor!
The new breed of sci-fi is all about austerity, mystery, simple yet monumental forms (see Arrival), the organic juxtaposed with artificial, and a future that is more or less scientifically plausible and down-to-earth. In fact, when you take a look at some of the latest architectural marvels around the world, it is easy to conclude that this kind of future is already happening.
An oriental market with glimmering neon reflecting on the rain-soaked streets- can we get more Blade Runner than this? It is exactly this juxtaposition of modern and classical patterns and the cultural peculiarities of the East and the West (Lang’s Metropolis with, let’s say, a market in Singapore) that made Ridley’s Scott’s 1982’s original into a unanimously acclaimed masterpiece and a globally renowned cult entry at the same time.
This is your chance to get right into the galactic maelstrom! Okay, you better not, as there’s probably more life-endangering substances than in the nightstand of Hunter S. Thompson. Space, though impossibly beautiful, is also an exceptionally dangerous place. It required centuries for our sci-fi heroes to figure out a safe means of interstellar travel. However, as time passes on, cinema is embracing a somewhat more true-to-life approach in its depiction of the wonders and hardships of galactic endeavors. See Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and you might have a good insight on how tricky it is to get sucked into a supernova.
And now, on a more colorful note, we just couldn’t exclude the main comic figures of the science fiction ecosystem. Stormtroopers are instantly recognizable figures; they are icons of bad aim loved and laughed at by millions of hardcore Star Wars fans around the world. With that said, they always look rad and will definitely infuse your place with an always welcomed comical twist. What a team!
To not mention this would be somewhat of a crime as there is only one format which sees the depiction of the future as an actual driving force behind the development of futuristic technology (think VR). Video games are somewhat championing the discipline as they’re the only media which can somewhat compete with cinema regarding the number of times they have approached the future as subject matter. They are also getting increasingly sophisticated (artistic, if you like) in their execution of the topic. The first association? Portal, of course.
Undeniably, one of the most popular ways of approaching sci-fi and presenting the future world is through rubble and dust, with the usual features of deserts, lack of resources, scavengers, and weird tribal/gang-like entities. Yes, we’re almost there, right into George Miller’s casual frame of mind. The dystopian image has always been the favourite kid of science fiction as there’s no better feeling than seeing our world decimated to pieces. All is good until it is not converted into a documentary. Also, weirdly so, these kind of flicks often boast an amazing aesthetic, so what can you do about it?
Returning back to a more idealistic and optimistic vision of the future, we have this beautiful piece. Remember when it was all about the joy of discovery and the possibilities scattered around the universe? Remember when becoming an astronaut was every school kid’s daydream, and when the sight of a rocket ship in liftoff was the only real must-see on the schedule? True, we also don’t remember these things as the space race, unfortunately, has come to what appears to be a perpetual halt. Then again, we can easily remind ourselves of wonders because we are born to explore.
It’s very exciting to exist in a time when most of the famous sci-fi entries have already provided our mind’s with the scenery. Of course, not everything is as sleek, techno-infused, or, quite on the contrary, gloomy and lifeless as these movies suggested. There certainly are great technological breakthroughs, including gadgets that make our lives more convenient and medical and biological discoveries that could potentially change the course of human history as we know it. All the while we have some awe-inspiring talents working on awe-inspiring cinema experiences! Enjoy and infuse your place with your favourite sci-fi iconography with any of our wall decor formats!
